Her work is ground-breaking, phenomenal. She has helped us see portraiture in general and celebrity culture in specific in entirely new ways.
I heard her speak years ago. She was such a tiny little woman, but had such a presence, a holiness. Amazing.
Nancy Pearl did a reader’s advisory in-service for the local libraries here. She was great! Like me she enjoyed Marilynne Robinson’s “Gilead,” and suggested a book similar to it, though I’ve forgotten it … :-O

I love Anne Lamott’s writing because she is so clear and honest, sometimes brutally honest. I remain spellbound at how someone so totally “outside” a faith tradition has made her faith an integral part of her life.
I love the way he writes—pithy, concise, witty to the point of biting. Very real—you know the people he’s writing about. Mark Twain set the tone for most of the writing I enjoy today.
